All the boys played really well and we were justified winners in the end. Well done, lads. We are all very proud of your tremendous achievement. Have a look at some of the triumphant scenes below!

We have many exciting and fun activities during the week including, Archery, Sugrú le cheile, a visit from St. Cecilia's Special School, a school walk, active stations and Jersey Day. If you would like to see some pictures of the week, please visit the Active School Flag section of the website.
Big Brain Puzzle Book Launch Day
Pupils from the Senior Classroom launched their puzzle book as part of the Junior Entrepreneur Programme on Friday 31st March. They started work on this project in October and Friday was the culmination of all their hard work. To date they have sold over 100 copies of the 'Big Brain Puzzle Book'. Congratulations to all our budding Entrepreneurs!
Trip to Ocean FM
The Senior Class visited Ocean Fm to advertise the 'Big Brain Puzzle Book'. It was very interesting to see how a radio station works behind the scenes. A huge thank you to Francie and Michelle for welcoming us into the station.
Confirmation Class 2017
On behalf of the Board of Management, the staff and the pupils of St. Joseph's N.S. I would like to wish the six pupils making their Confirmation the very best. They have been working towards their big day for a number of months now. I am sure that all their hard work will pay off and make it a truly memorable day. Enjoy!
Irish Heart Foundation.
As part of our application for the renewal of our Active School Flag, we have taken part in a couple of initiatives ran by the Irish Heart Foundation. The pupil have had the Pocket Planner for a couple of weeks now. Each day they record how much physical activity they do with the aim being one hour. They are also given tasks to do. This runs for four weeks, at the end of which they receive a certificate. The second initiative is called Busy Breaks. This is used when it is too wet for the children to go outside at break or lunch times. Keep up the good work everybody!!!
Debating Team
Well done to the debating team who were successful in their debate against Cloghogue N.S. The motion 'Climate change can't be stopped' was carried by the slimmest of margins (76 points to 75). Although we had three speakers on the day it was a real team effort. Everybody in the Senior Class helped with research and in preparing the argument. Our next debate will be against Geevagh in the near future.
Operation Transformation's 10 @10
Well done to everybody from Junior Infants to Sixth Class for taking part in O.T's 10 @ 10. This took place on the 10th February at 10:00 and schools all over the country were getting active for ten minutes
Our hard work has paid off!
The hard work the pupils have been putting doing in preperation for our application for our fifth Green Schools flag has continued this term. Our 'Bug Hotel' is open for business and we are looking forward to the first guests who are expected to check in in the coming weeks! Ms. McLoughlin has been keeping on top of the paper work side of things and keeping An Taisce up to date with our progress. All the work has been rewarded as the school has been mentioned in two publications in the last few weeks. One of the pictures of our pupils has been incorrectly labelled as a school from Tipperary but I am sure that you will recognise a few familiar faces. Please follow the links below.
Junior Entrepreneur Programme
The Senior Classroom had a visit from Mary Shandly, who works for Gusclad in Ballyfarnon, as part of our programme. She gave the pupils lots of details about the history of the business and the day-to-day work done in the factory. She also answered the pupils questions and gave them a real insight into life as an entrepreneur. A big thank you to Mary for taking time out of her day to talk to the pupils and to Declan Killoran for organising it.
Board of Management meeting.
A meeting of the Board of Management took place on Tuesday 6th December. A number of policies were ratified. I would like to draw parents attention to two in particular- the 'Code of Behaviour' policy and specifically the responsibility of adults section and the 'Complaints Procedure' policy. If you have any questions regarding these you can contact me in the school.
A visit from Micheal Bell.
At the end of October Michael Bell, from the Heritage Council, visited the school. He talked to us about how important Biodiversity is and plants, animals and trees found in our area. The pupils also created a Biodiversity map of our school grounds. We hope to welcome Michael back in the summer term.
